Environmental Education Campus Study

KGRW was hired to master plan a new environmental education campus. The campus will create a dynamic, memorable visual impact and stimulate an immersive experience for students, including those from urban areas who may never have experienced the natural environment in this way.  The site will showcase sustainable local forest products and use the built environment as an educational tool in balance with the natural environment.  The site has a lot of topography sloping do

wn to a beautiful lake.  The campus plan weaves gathering spaces tiered at multiple levels on the site with the preservation of the wooded slopes.  The provision of accessible connection at each level was a primary driver to the design as well.  The use of the buildings and forest to define and connect spaces and views in a naturally occurring way helps anchor the educational experience directly to the land.
